The Red Brick Company is the English Drama Group at the University of Kassel.
The Company of student actors gathered in the summer semester of 2006 for the first time. The initiative to start such a drama group came from one lecturer, who came to the university in 2006. He had been doing theater in Mannheim for quite a while before he came to Kassel and wanted to establish that tradition in Kassel as well. Ever since, he has been directing all productions of the Company.
The first season started in the winter semester 2006/2007 and the company produced Confusions by Alan Ayckbourn.
The Company chose Mother Figure, Drinking Companions and Between Mouthfuls' to entertain the audience.
The second production in the summer 2007 was a revue of 22 plays in 88 minutes under the title Red Brick Company Goes Black.
The third production in the winter semester 2007/2008 was Black Comedy by Peter Shaffer.
The fourth production was Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) by Ann-Marie MacDonald in the summer of 2008.
In January 2009, the company presented the production of Lord Arthur which was a play based on a short story by Oscar Wilde.
Summer 2009 came along with the production of Wildest Dreams which is one of Alan Ayckbourn's greatest plays.
Moreover, because the company had grown in the past years an alternative project runs parallel to the play production since the winter semester 08/09. The first project was a haunted campus tour and the second one was a flash mob commercial for the play.
